ROBERT VANO
Robert Vano is an American photographer living in Prague. He is one of the best known and most popular photographers in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. He specializes in fashion photography. He has photographed for magazines around the world, such as Elle, Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, etc. In his free time, he focuses mainly on male nudes. He has published 8 books. Several programs were made about him, including a feature-length documentary. As one of the few, he specializes in technology - platinotype. He is the holder of the European Trebia Award for creative activity.
He was born in Nové Zámky, Slovakia to Hungarian parents. After graduating in 1967, instead of joining the war, he emigrated via Yugoslavia and Italy to the United States , where he established himself as a hairdresser and make-up artist .
He was an assistant to fashion photographers such as Horst P. Horst , Marco Glaviano or Giovanni Gastel. He has been a freelance photographer since 1984.
He has worked in New York , Paris and Milan, and in Prague, where he photographed for fashion magazines
(e.g. Cosmopolitan, Harper's Bazaar , Vogue ).
He has lived in Prague since 1995 , where he worked as an artistic director in the Czech edition of Elle magazine from 1996 to 2003 , and then until 2009 as a creative director in the Czechoslovak models agency.
Since then, he has been working as a freelance photographer.
Robert Vano is primarily a fashion and advertising photographer. He photographs black-and- white portraits and nudes on classic film and also uses the little-used platinotype technique. He collaborates with world brands, leads "Daylight nude" workshops.
He prefers to shoot in daylight.
Color Planet magazine named him an "internationally renowned photographer" in 2009 and placed Van in 11th place in the ranking of the fifteen most influential Czech gays.
In 2010, he was awarded the European Trebbia Prize for creative work.
Among other things, he became famous for male nudes. One of his main artistic role models is, for example, the American photographer Bruce Weber .
